One of my favorite visits that we have done as a class has been the British Museum. We enjoyed it so much that we are trying to go again. The museum is so big that there was no way we would be able to go through all of it in one morning. Just being able to see so many different ancient artifacts was great. I don't really know what my favorite part of the museum was because honestly I was fascinated by all of it, but I very much enjoyed the Egyptian and Roman areas of the museum. Before going to the museum we actually learned in class that most of these artifacts were actually stolen from other cultures or bought through the black market and that these other cultures are actually and have been trying to get back what's theirs for years. I wasn't too surprised because I feel like that's what everyone did back in the day, steal from each other, especially to gain power. I feel this is one of the most prominent reasons. Even though the British have said they claimed some of this artifacts legally or to "save them", they were still taken away from their lands of origin so I can see why other cultures would be upset. But it doesn't surprise me that the British are culture borrowers, I mean their national dish is curry! Anyway, it was a really great experience and since I really like history and learning about it I definitely enjoyed it. I will probably be back a second time before we leave London!
